In close collaboration with the Karolinska Institute, Academic House is opening a 1,100 m2 hub for co-working and shared laboratory environments on Campus Flemingsberg in Stockholm. The new location becomes a natural extension of A Working Lab's popular environments on Campus Solna, for both existing and new members within the life science sector.

Through A Working Lab Flemingsberg, Academic House will be able to offer additional offices and laboratories where students, researchers, and the business community can converge on campus. The Karolinska Institute currently has operations in both Solna and Flemingsberg. In collaboration with Academic House, spaces are now being made available for more flexible use between the two campus areas for students, researchers, and university staff as well as members of A Working Lab. The premises in Flemingsberg thus become an important addition to create a bridge between academia and industry where unique opportunities for collaboration, growth, and development can arise. The node in Flemingsberg will also provide an opportunity to explore how new solutions for increased space efficiency can be developed.

"A more flexible offering for the members of A Working Lab is to strengthen the operations with a node in Flemingsberg, which is now becoming a reality. We have a high demand for laboratory spaces and offices on Campus Solna today, and thanks to the node on Campus Flemingsberg, we are opening up for more members and even more collaboration between students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and startup companies within life science," says Åsa Johansson, head of A Working Lab at Academic House.

Growing Demand

There is a great interest in these types of environments, and currently, there are 133 members and about 30 companies active in the environments at A Working Lab Innomedicum in Solna. The pressure is particularly high to rent laboratory spaces, a demand that will now be possible to meet through the new node. In addition to labs and offices, the premises in Flemingsberg will also provide access to meeting rooms and an auditorium.

"We welcome the new node in Flemingsberg which creates additional opportunities to strengthen the life science cluster in the region and to make research and innovation structures available to more," says Hans Möller, CEO of Karolinska Institutet Holding AB.

A Working Lab Innomedicum at Campus Solna is today an important meeting place and community for the life science industry. By sharing laboratories and instruments in the same way as the office space in the co-working part, entirely new possibilities are opened up for more in the industry. The members can thus keep costs down while gaining access to environments adapted to their needs. The new node in Flemingsberg is located at Alfred Nobel's Allé 10 and is planned to open in the spring of 2022. The initiative is part of a pilot project with great hopes of becoming a permanent operation.
