What role do members play in a sustainable coworking environment? This was investigated by researchers from Chalmers in a study funded by CMB, the foundation for construction management. Members of A Working Lab participated in the study.

The aim of the study was to explore the sustainable behavior of members in these environments. Researchers investigated the extent to which individuals working in coworking spaces view this as a way to conduct their operations sustainably. Are they more inclined to share, purchase eco-friendly products, opt out of air travel, or make other sustainable choices? How does the idea of sharing workspaces align with behaviors linked to sustainability?

The field of sustainability and coworking is currently modestly researched, making this report a crucial starting point. The case study collected data from interviews and observations, allowing the identification of three behaviors among members: productive behavior, prosocial behavior, and responsible sharing. These were then broken down into 15 different dimensions of sustainable coworking behavior. This identification forms a basis for measuring and monitoring sustainable coworking behavior in the future.
